On a Friday.
It’s as we enter studio four that the teacher looks at us thoughtfully. Three have gone
to the hospital, and half of those of us still present have some sort of pain
or injury or other. The teacher gives us that contemplating once-over, thinks
for a moment, and then she says:
“You know
what? Let’s go to Utopia and have coffee.”
When the
shock has settles – and we realise it was not a joke – two hours are spent in
soft sofas in the cosiest little café you could possibly imagine. A passing
rainfall patters on the windows, it’s warm inside and everyone is crammed
together around one single table, matching up each other’s personalities with
different dog breeds.
However,
don’t go thinking this is how university is in general over here, this was a
rarity – indeed, it has never happened before. It was surprising and welcome
and gave off a wonderful feeling of our university teachers caring about us as more
than just students, but as actual people as well.
